I am not Fluent in English. Can I still learn German?

If this thought is stopping you, you are not alone. The answer is yes, you absolutely can learn German.

First, let us clear a big myth. English fluency is NOT mandatory to learn German. The German language has its own sounds, grammar, and structure. You are not “translating” English into German. You are learning German step-by-step, just like you once learned your mother tongue.

Both English and German languages share the common Latin alphabets.They also have many core words that are similar in their respective scripts as also similar phonetic patterns. It is safe to say that one who has the knowledge of basic English can learn German with conceptual clarity.

For nurses especially, German is taught with practical hospital communication, not fancy English. You learn what you actually need at work.

So don’t let your fluency in English decide your ability to learn German in the future. You can even learn German if you are from an English medium background and have studied English till class IXth.
