Pathway to Become a registered nurse in Germany

Germany is an excellent destination for nurses to pursue a career especially at this point, from India, offering many benefits to those wanting to settle in an advanced, economically developed country in the heart of Europe. However, in order to legally work as a Registered Nurse (RN) you must take part in the Anerkennung (recognition) process, which is a requirement for validation of your nursing qualifications.
The Anerkennung process begins with determining whether your nursing educational background is comparable to German level nursing education. You will be required to submit documents including your degree, transcripts, work experience, passport, and proof of German language proficiency (minimum B2 level) to your training partner or relevant state authority.
Once submitted for evaluation, your application will result in a recognition response:
Full recognition – if your education German standards.
Partial recognition – if there are identified gaps, you will need to do an Anerkennungsjahr “adaptation” period, complete a Weiterbildung “advanced/crash” course, or, appear for a Kenntnisprüfung or “knowledge test”).
During the Anerkennung process many candidates apply for a visa under the Section 16d of the German Residence Act, which enables you to enter Germany while not having to complete your recognition paperwork. After you have first completed all of your recognition paperwork you will receive your licence (Berufserlaubnis) to work as a Registered Nurse in Germany.
